Vilamoura is the largest tourist complex in the Algarve, in fact possibly one of the single tourist complexes in Europe, covering well over 2 to 3.000 hectares of land.
The land is or was mainly pine forest, with some marshland, this has now been reclaimed for the numerous golf courses, golf has made Vilamoura, with of course the development of the marina, such a combination has the ingredients to attract an element of people with spare cash and of course their followers of fashion, all this combined with the many hours of sunshine has created a commercial success. I have watched the area grow over the past 22 years and I have to say it has grown well, not spoiled but obviously a million miles from a fishing village.
Hotels, villas, shopping centres, casino, golf complexes, tennis centre, cinema, night clubs, riding schools, marina, and restaurants makes Vilamoura an exciting part of the Algarve and well worth a visit.
