Villas in Faro: Faro is the main town in the Algarve for most government/council matters, it has one of if not the largest population well over 50.000. The city has quite a few Arab and Roman ruins but most of the current buildings were constructed after the earthquakes in 1532 and 1755. The town was occupied by the Moors in the 8th Century. Faro was once a thriving trading port.
Most of the city has been redesigned into apartment buildings, offices and shops. Faro is also the home of the Ria Formosa, a "must see" nature reserve of over 16.000 hectares, a home too hundreds of birds in the spring, summer and autumn.
The main airport, rail station, bus station is in Faro, also there is a small Marina and a long sandy beach.
However most tourists stay in the other areas of the Algarve and mostly visit Faro, especially for shopping.
