 Albufeira is the tourist hotspot in the Algarve and the population of this once fishing village expands, approx 5 million tourists will visit this year, yep even in the so-called credit crunch we have now.
The summer season has expanded due to the climate change temperatures and sunshine hours have increased, some 3000 hours of sun are expected each year.
I have been visiting for over 22 years, returning because not only for the weather but for the friendliness of the people, the food, wonderful beaches, scenery which is certainly not baron the Algarve is surrounded by pine forests and within a few miles inland the monchique mountains, cork forests, orange and lemon groves greet you as you travel and tour.
Nightlife, golf courses, tourist attractions have developed considerably over the years to attract families to the area, the airport is very central and since joining the EU, the roads have "thank goodness" improved, however the Taxi drivers haven't.
Touring from the Spanish border to the western end of the Algarve is relatively easy to do, there are pretty villages and larger towns to stop and visit, mariners, beaches, lighthouses, markets are to found along the way, not forgetting golf courses which are too numerous to mention.
